Ayacucho. Perched on the Peruvian heights, this city is one of the poorest places on earth. Life there shows up to be very difficult. Numerous orphans roam across the streets. That is precisely where Gil Van den Bergh and his wife decided to establish their orphanage ten years ago. They sold everything they had and left Belgium, to make a difference in the life of those who needed it the most: vulnerable abandoned children.

Several toddlers are being found in the country dumps. Most of them are handicapped. With a lot of love and work, the couple manages to save them from a nearly inevitable death. Flying to Ayacucho to take care of Papa Gil’s children, Stéphanie Lapointe tells us about the wonderful story of this man whose initiative touched Ayacucho’s heart and saved more than 20 children’s lives.
